Temporary Medical Excusals

Homebound Instruction can be provided to students unable to attend school due to an illness or another urgent reason. Excusal from school is made on a temporary basis. The Office of Student and Community Services, upon the request of a parent, evaluates the need for this type of instruction. A physician’s prescription must also accompany any request for homebound services. Instruction happens in the home, or at another suitable location, at the rate of five (5) hours per week.

This exception to the compulsory attendance requirements is on a temporary basis only. Students are expected to return to the regular education program as quickly as possible. Approvals for homebound instruction are given for 90 calendar days (3 months) or less. Any request beyond three months must be reviewed by the Pupil Services Department and the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

It is our intent to provide a quality school experience for all students. Homebound Education is a short-term remedy for students unable to leave home for instruction; it is not a replacement for daily attendance or instruction. Please contact Mr. Reichl or the Student and Community Services Department at (610) 250-2400 x35072 if you have further questions.
