Resolution Opposing ESA Vouchers
At the February 20, 2018 Board meeting, the Easton Area School District Board of Education unanimously passed the Resolution Opposing ESA Voucher Programs (PDF), objecting to the passage and enactment of Senate Bill #2: ESA Vouchers. Each year, public school districts struggle to meet the demand of providing a comprehensive educational program to meet the multiple needs of a diverse student population. The various expenditures, salaries, pension and benefits costs, facility maintenance, providing educational resources for students to succeed, just to name a few, increase at a higher rate than funding sources (Federal, State, and Local) can accommodate. In addition, the State of Pennsylvania continues to struggle with providing local school districts with needed revenues leaving it up to the local taxpayers to assume more and more of the fiscal needs of the school district. The passage and subsequent enactment of Senate Bill #2 will siphon precious state revenues away from public school districts in order to provide funding for attendance at non-public/private educational facilities. The Easton Area Board of Education does not believe public tax dollars should be, or was intended to be, used for this purpose.
