The Diversity Alliance was formed to prepare students to live and work in a global, multicultural society by creating and supporting a teaching-learning environment where all employees and students understand and value commonalities and differences within and across various cultures in order to produce harmonious community lifelong learners.
Update 2020
The Diversity Alliance began to have an open discussion regarding the history of EASD, the current circumstances in our country, and how we should proceed in becoming a systemically anti-racist school district. Those discussions led to the identification of six areas of focus for the 2020-21 school year:
- Culture and climate for minority students and employees
- Curriculum and instruction
- Discipline and policing
- Educational supports and opportunities for minority students
- Professional development/training for all employees
- Recruitment, hiring, and retention of minority employees
Committees have been formed to address each area of focus and to create action plans. Currently, over 100 members of our school community are involved in the work of the Diversity Alliance.
