Tracy School named Keystone Healthy Zone School!
Pennsylvania Advocates for Nutrition and Activity recognizes schools throughout the state for their commitment to support healthy eating and physical activity as part of the total learning environment. Tracy Elementary School has been recognized each year since 2004 as a Keystone Healthy Zone School, based on many factors, but especially because of our TRACY TRACKERS Walking Club. During recess, students walk a course around the school grounds and earn a keychain with “feet tokens” for their efforts to stay fit. In Summer 2006, children and their families participated in Keystone Active Zone Passport Program that encouraged outdoor activities at local parks and trails.

In 2007, our school received Highmark Healthy High 5 grant money to expand Walking Club activities. Students received pedometers to use at school and home to count steps as a way to track their progress.

The goal of EASD school health services is to secure and promote student health,

so that all children may meet their optimal learning potential.

NURSE’S OFFICE

The nurse's office at Tracy School is located off the main office, and is open from 8:30 to 3:30 on school days. The nursing staff consists of one certified school nurse, Lisa Lutes-Virgilio

The health room staff provides health services to students and their families that promote physical and emotional health. Some examples include:

First aid
Medications administration
Health teaching
Referral to community resources
Counseling and support
Height, weight, vision & hearing screening
Coordination of dental & physical exams
Enforcement of Pennsylvania Immunizations Code

Know when to keep your child home:

COLDS: severe cold with fever
FEVER: a temp. of 100 or more, keep child home until temp. is down for 24 hours
DIARRHEA OR VOMITING: if either occurred during the night, child should stay home.
Call the doctor if it keeps up, or if a fever, rash or weakness is noted.
PINK EYE: call a doctor for medicine. Child should stay home until there
is no more drainage from the eye. Girls should throw out eye make up to
get rid of all germs

MEDICATION POLICY

If your child needs to take medicine in school, whether it is prescription or over-the-counter medicine, the procedure is as follows
1. Complete and return EASD's Medication Authorization Form that provides the nurse with doctor's prescription AND parent/guardian permission to administer the medicine.
2. Bring the medication in its original container to the nurse's office. Children MAY NOT transport the medicine to school per district policy.
3. Parents will be notified to refill the medicinal supply, as needed, and will receive notification at end of the year to pick up any remaining meds by the last day of school before they are discarded.

EXAMINATIONS

PA law requires a school entry physical exam as well as dental examinations for all children in grades 1, 3 and 7. A school dentist and a school physician are available to assess your child if you do not have a private doctor. Health Care Provider lists are available in the nurse's office. Please return your preference form to the nurse ASAP.

IMMUNIZATIONS

DPT, Polio, MMR (measles/mumps/rubella) and Hepatitis B vaccines are required for all students. Chicken Pox Vaccine or Proof of Illness Statement is also required for entry. Have your child immunized accordingly and send a record with the exact dates of vaccines to the school nurse. Vaccines must be complete and on file for student entry to be granted. There is a provisional admittance period for students who are not in compliance with PA regulations, before exclusion from school is enforced. If your child is exempt from immunizations due to religious or medical reasons, your child may be removed from school during a disease outbreak.
