Guiding our Students ...

Our 6 elementary schools, 2 middle schools, and 1 high school in Easton are equipped with multiple mobile carts of laptop computers complete with all software that motivates children to love to learn and grow. In addition, all schools have classroom computers and/or technology classrooms, laser printers, digital and video cameras, projectors, and other technology necessary for integration and learning. In the past two year, the Easton Area High School was chosen as an early starter for the Pennsylvania Classrooms for the Future grant. This allowed 43 additional classrooms to be fitted with Polyvision boards, projectors, speakers, digital cameras, digital video cameras, and laptop carts. At the Easton Area Academy - Alternative Learning Center, fifth through twelfth grade students are  excelling through their experience with a true “One to One” initiative - one student, one laptop. Students in this school are taking ownership for their work and becoming responsible individuals through the trust and respect they received when the district provided them with access to their own laptop. The initiative has been a tremendous success, and Easton is looking forward to expanding this success throughout other district schools in the coming years.

Taking the Next Step ...

The integration of technology into our schools, our curriculum, and the lives of our staff and students in Easton has been a smooth, gradual process over the course of the past few years. It was made possible by the support of our school board, administration, and community. Easton is blessed with a well-trained and energetic technology staff that is always ready to take things to the next level and do what is best for the future of our students. We hope to continue changing our schools for the better as the world changes around us. Please explore this website to learn more about why a One to One initiative is necessary and how we are preparing our students for this initiative currently through integration in the classroom.

Over the past 6 years, the Easton Area School District has been experiencing a technology explosion. Through the leadership of Director of Technology Thomas Drago, as well as the support of the EASD Administration and Board of Education, our commitment to raising the technological bar for Easton’s students has paid off.  Through a clear vision, careful planning, thorough training, and constant communication, our schools are preparing Easton youth for the future that awaits them.

Preparing the Leaders...

Success requires understanding and support from everyone.  We began our transformation in Easton by providing all school board members, administrators, and teachers in the Easton Area School District with laptops to help them become more familiar with the technology. Everyone is encouraged to use this technology at work and at home and fill their own lives with technology just as our students do each day. Extensive and on-going training sessions are provided for all of these staff members to help them effectively integrate technology into all curricular areas. In the past two years, over 200 hours of technology training were provided in addition to training within the classroom by building technology coordinators. These eleven Classroom Technology Coordinators (CTCs) are teachers themselves that are familiar with the curriculum of each subject area, as well as the National Educational Technology Standards for Students. They are qualified to effectively integrate technology into the curriculum with the guidance of those standards.  The accessibility and approachability of the CTCs is one of the keys to the strong teacher support for technology throughout the entire district.

Making the Best Decisions...

In addition to the laptops, the Easton Area School District has provided other technologies necessary to effectively manage data and make the best decisions for our students. From PowerSchool, a web-based student information system complete with demographics, scheduling, grades, and state test scores, to our own district created databases to monitor and track professional growth of our staff, the health and BMI of our students, and the new standards-based elementary report cards, technology in Easton has provided endless information and opportunities. Three Technology Integration Specialists and our own Database Developer maintain these programs daily and personally train all staff members, parents, and students to use them effectively with ease.
