Palmer First Graders visit the State Theater
First graders at Palmer Elementary attend the State Theater for their class field trip. At the State Theater the students watch the musical Madeline and the Bad Hat. The students watch the musical and even got to ask the actors and actresses questions ranging from "What's it like being an actress?" to "have you ever messed up while acting?"
Paxinosa AFG Citizenship
As part of our AFG Strategic Plan for the 2008-2009 school year, Paxinosa students are becoming better citizens of their school and community. They also have many reasons to be proud! On March 25th students at Paxinosa celebrated a very special occasion and the excitement echoed throughout the rafters of the auditorium! After students wrote hundreds of letters to School Board Members and a final vote was taken, Paxinosa’s name will remain the same! The name is valuable to our school because it gives the students a feeling of identity and stability during a transitional year to a new school.
A major highlight to the celebration was Vice Principal, Mr. Bonilla, dressing up like the school mascot, a Chief! Not only was this humorous for the students, but it also reinforced Paxinosa’s Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) Program. Students earn Chief Slips when they are following the six school wide expectations. At Paxinosa students demonstrate a higher degree of core ethical values and it visible throughout the school! We are proud to be the Paxinosa Chiefs!

AFG Citizenship Team Leader
AFG at EAHS and EAA
On April 14-15, 2009, the AFG K-12 Implementation/Strategic Plan Team members met to examine the commendations and recommendations that the EAHS and EAA building Implementation Teams put forth for the three student achievement objectives – Math, Literacy, and Citizenship, and the twelve standards. The Annual Review process involved a cooperative effort among several stakeholders. The process was productive, and positive dialogue among K-12 Implementation/Strategic Plan Team members was an essential element in allowing us to identify our strengths and needs as a school/district and determine a plan of action for addressing those needs and meeting AFG goals. Through the Annual Review process, team members became aware of each school’s successes and recognized many commonalities between the two schools.

Kindergarten Registration
at Cheston School
During the past month, nearly one hundred children have registered to attend kindergarten at Cheston School next year. The children and their parents met with our office staff, school nurse, and kindergarten teachers to complete the registration process and kindergarten assessment. We are looking forward to a great 2009/2010 school year with all our new families!
Welcome to Cheston!

Friday Update from Team 8-2
(Team OMEGA)
In English class students are working on their “Hall of Fame/Hall of Shame” research papers. Students research a historically significant figure and write a persuasive paper on why the person should be included in the hall of fame, or perhaps, the hall of shame. Some notable candidates this year include Coco Chanel, Howard Hughes, Sandra Day O’Connor, and Robert Mugave.
