SLIDESHOW of Geometric Shapes

SLIDESHOW of Arrays

Technology at Palmer Elementary School

Third Graders at Palmer are using their laptops to reinforce their math knowledge and skills.  In Mrs. Guffy’s class, students made animated slideshows using as many different geometric shapes as possible and naming them.  Mrs. Laudenslager’s students also created animated slideshows.  They illustrated multiplication facts with animated arrays.  To do this, they used, Garageband, Powerpoint and iMovie.

Mrs. Gee’s Third Graders used their 21st Century skills in Social Studies.  They researched, wrote and produced podcasts about famous African Americans.  See example, below.  To do them, they used Garageband and iTunes. You can see more of Mrs. Laudenslager’s and Mrs. Gee’s digital projects at http://www.eastonsd.org/palmer/Site/Podcasts.html.  Mrs. Guffy’s class projects will be posted soon.

Odyssey of the Mind

The Southeast Pennsylvania Regional Competition for Odyssey of the Mind will be this Saturday, March 7, at the Easton Area Middle School Complex in Forks Township.   The presentations of long-term problems begin at 7:30 am and run through 4:30 pm.    Over 150 teams from throughout the SE Pennsylvania region will be competing in three age divisions.    Easton’s nine teams have worked for many months to complete their long-term problems.  All presentations are free and open to the public.

Odyssey of the Mind is an international program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students in grades K-12.   Kids work together, in groups of 5-7, under the direction of a coach or several coaches, to solve one of the Long-Term Problems for the year.   Students also practice Spontaneous Problems, which challenge students to “think on their feet.”   We are very proud that Easton is the host district, and are deeply appreciative of the many teams of people in the district who are making it possible.
