Palmer First Graders learn about our new President

First graders at Palmer Elementary recently learned about President Barack Obama. They then wrote letters to him stating what they hope he does for the country in the next four years. Answers ranged from making schools safer, cleaning up the environment and even filing paper work.

News from F.A. March

F. A. March Elementary School is in the process of planning its annual FAME Booster Week, to be held next month.  The emphasis will be on the behavioral expectations for “Focus on Respect” and “bE Responsible.”  A letter will be sent to parents to inform them about FAME Booster Week, asking them to review with their children the FAME flipchart they were given at the beginning of the year, and to sign the FAME contract again as a reminder of everyone’s commitment to the FAME expectations.  Teachers will be preparing FAME lessons for their classes, to be incorporated into their daily schedules.   The behavioral expectations will be reviewed, re-taught and practiced throughout the week, and culminating activities will be presented at our monthly March Pride assembly on March 6.  The concept of “citizenship” was discussed at our FAME Core meeting as a common thread to run through the week, building on the ideas and remarks our student body heard spoken by President Obama in his inaugural address.

FAME has been up and running at March School for seven years, with many positive outcomes.  Our FAME Core Team was happy to learn of the district initiative to implement Positive Behavior Intervention Support in other schools, in accordance with the AFG Strategic Plan.

Youth Entrepreneurship Day for EAHS Students

Mrs. Klein’s Entrepreneurship classes traveled to Scranton University to participate in Youth Entrepreneurship Day on December 18, 2008. This FREE one-day student seminar was designed to bring students from area schools together and challenge them to identify a viable business concept. Teams of 2-3 students engaged in hands-on activities to help them define their businesses. They were further challenged when they returned to their classes and, with the help of their teacher, actually wrote a business plan that was submitted in the 2009 Entrepreneurship Challenge.

M. Zimmerman’s plan was chosen as one of the top 15 plans in the region and is moving onto the state judging level in hopes that it will become one of the top three winning plans.
