Art Careers Explored through Videoconferencing
Ms. Miskevichs' Portfolio and Art 4 classes and Ms. Marquarts’ AP Art History, Art 2 and Art 3 classes had the opportunity to visit museums through videoconferences to learn about some of the career opportunities in this field.
The Portfolio and Art 4 classes took part in a program titled “Museum Careers” and were able to interact with a representative from the Cleveland Museum of Art. A variety of jobs were discussed, included some which dealt with finances, but the emphasis was on jobs, which required an art background. Students were able to see and speak with a restorer repairing a Velazquez painting. Students saw art being moved, hung, and stored. The videoconference ended with a lively discussion with the curator.
Students from AP Art History, Art 2 &3 participated in “Beyond the Gallery: The Cincinnati Art Museum Unsung.” The students visited professionals at work in conservation and preservation, exhibition design and exhibition installation.

Technology Updates from Tracy Elementary School
Students at Tracy School have been involved with a variety of technology curriculum based activities and lessons over the past few weeks. Students in the 2nd grade were learning about four different Native American Tribes, Sioux, Chinook, Seneca, and Hopi. Students use their knowledge of the tribes to create a Native American scene on the MacBook laptops.
Using the program Kid Pix Deluxe students selected a specific tribe. Students using what they learned about the tribe selected the background setting for where they might find the tribe living. In Kid Pix students added, "stickers" and "stampers", details and characteristics of their tribe. If their tribe lived in tepees or grew crops for example students would add plants and tepees to the scene they were creating. Once their scenes were completed students printed them out and wrote about the tribe and the Native American scene they created.
Students in 3rd grade have been working on telling time. Using the program eTools on the laptops students manipulated clocks to identify time to the hour, half hour, quarter hour and even to the minute. Students also used the Promethean interactive whiteboards to display times. They challenged fellow classmates ability to tell time by making different times on the whiteboard for classmates to match.
Students in 4th grade finished a creative writing unit in a very visual way. Using the program Kid Pix Deluxe students transformed their written work into digital stories. Students created a slide for each paragraph of writing. On their slides they designed and created the setting, characters and details to match their story. Once finished students became digital story tellers and shared their digital story with the class.
News from Mr. Repsher’s Class at EAA
My 8th grade science class is creating comic book characters based on elements we have studied from the periodic table. The superpowers that each character possesses is directly related to the physical and chemical properties of the element. Finished comic books will be displayed throughout the school.
