Tracy Elementary has been adopted by the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #588. In honor of Teacher Recognition Week, the organization presented all of the teachers and paraprofessionals with certificates thanking them for their work with children. Karen Borghi, Tracy’s math coach, was given special recognition for her dedication to education and was honored with a special gift from the American Legion. The group also graciously donated books to Tracy’s library.
The Easton Area School District elementary enrichment students made the news! Reporter Chris Baxter and staff photographer Harry Fisher, from The Morning Call, visited Tracy last Tuesday and interviewed several students about the service-learning project they are working on this year, which involves linking with the Historic Easton Cemetery to generate awareness and learn about the rich history of the site. Neelam, Emily, Sarah, and Jack were highlighted. Mr. Fisher also visited Paxinosa and videotaped James and Trevor as they worked on incorporating images into their Haiku poems for a poetry unit.
Students from all six elementary schools are somewhat involved in the service-learning project and were asked to create projects in a variety of mediums: paintings, sculptures, 3-D pieces and collages, poetry, music and photography…etc, that were relevant to the cemetery. The purpose? The students finished works are now on display at the Palmer Memorial Library. The exhibit will be up through January the 3rd.
Baxter and Fisher’s photojournalistic endeavor chronicled the students from the classroom, to the installation of the art show, and then on to the opening exhibit. The article and video segment can both be viewed online. Several students are quoted in the article and Neelam’s poem, New Beginnings, is printed in the closing paragraph.

Physical Education News from F.A. March
The school year is moving quickly and the holidays are upon us. The students of March Elementary are all working hard and learning health and fitness skills that will help and last them a lifetime. We always talk about getting enough rest and sleep as well as exercise and discuss healthy eating choices and habits.
We started the year with circuit training, which included checking, and counting heart beats as well as how to do a proper warm-up and cool down with all our activities. This includes stretching for the upper and lower body, push ups and sit-ups/curl-ups for strength along with jumping jacks, jumping rope, mountain climbers, line jump and many more activities that they can do and use all year long.
We moved into soccer skills activities stressing the footwork of all students and than moved into catching and throwing skills using soft baseballs and soft softballs along with foam and rubber footballs to work on hand-eye coordination skills.
All classes practice and the fourth grade is tested on what is called the FITNESSGRAM by The Cooper Institute which is a comprehensive and computerized reporting system which allows individualized reports for each student. All students did a wonderful job and showed good effort.
Next were basketball skills to work on movement and teamwork as well as sportsmanship. This all relates back to our positive behavior program called F.A.M.E. and our district wide AGF program of having all students learning how to grow up to be successful productive citizens of society.
