            EASTON AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT

2007 - 2008 School Year

First Annual Technology Expo a Great Success!

The EASD Technology Department sponsored its First Annual Technology Expo at the Palmer Park Mall on Sunday, May 4th.  Students from our schools presented many integration projects that they have worked on this year.  The event was very successful and we had a great turnout!  Thanks to all who came out to support our kids.  Read on for more information about what each school shared:

Each student in Brandon and Ryan's third grade class at Palmer made an animated array in Keynote to demonstrate a multiplication fact. Then they used Garageband to choose and add music to their array slides. All of their slides were put together in a slide show and viewers were challenged to guess the illustrated fact before the multiplication statement appeared. Each student in Doris's third grade class made a Keynote slide showing a life cycle - either butterfly, frog or plant. They animated each step of the cycle in sequential order and recorded their voices explaining each step. Then all the slides were put together in a show. During the Expo, Brandon and Ryan taught Doris how to make their slideshow and Doris taught Brandon and Ryan how to make hers.

Students from 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade at March School demonstrated how to create skyscrapers with SketchUp, Robots with The Print Shop and FAME posters with Comic Life. They also showed how to make a claymation using iMovie and the many uses of Photo Booth to show symmetry and Pop Art.

Cheston Elementary School had 3 different applications on display at the Technology Expo at the Mall on Sunday.  Alicia made a newsletter about volcanos using Pages, Trevor used Comic Life to make an ABC book on outer space and Diana made a Keynote biography of the life of Helen Keller.

Tracy Elementary School had an array of projects on display during Easton's first annual Technology Expo at the Palmer Mall. Projects such as Planet Movies, Natural Disaster Podcasts, graphs, and geo-cities were just some of the projects. Tracy Apple Core Members, Tyra, Sydney, and Tara were also on hand demonstrating how to make podcasts and presenting podcasts they made.

The third grade students from Paxinosa demonstrated how to use the program called Comic Life.  Irene and Tatum from Mrs. Grossbauer's class used Comic Life after they wrote a How to Paragraph.   Both students enjoyed using Comic Life.  Tyler and Tori, two 4th grade students, created an acrostic in Print Shop.  They chose a state from the New England Region and added facts to their acrostic.  They then decorated it with a border.  They really like Print Shop!

Students of Forks elementary have been hard at work exploring technology. Using the digital cameras, students created projects like "weather report," "if I were an astronaut," "Shapelock Holmes," and "Odd and Even Twins."  With laptops in hand, the sky is the limit. Firsts graders became interior designers to practice using their positions words to describe their ultimate bedroom. Second grade solved the mystery of the bank robber bandit by writing clues about the criminal who stole thousands of dollars. Third grade took symmetry to a new level by designing symmetrical classrooms for a new state of the art elementary. And fourth grade, created beautiful flower bouquets fit for any bride after researching various varieties of flowers. Technology has empowered our students to achieve above and beyond!

EAMS teachers and students submitted projects including: science food webs, "Chart your Heart" double bar graphs, "My Life" timelines, informative essay posters, and even the results of our own 6th grade Presidential Primary election.  Students working at the expo shared interactive Choose Your Own Adventure stories created by our 5th graders, Titanic podcasts, and a special Keynote presentation on facing challenges.

Shawnee Middle School had interview podcasts about the Aparthied that were created by Miss Hunter's Social Studies classes on display, and Mrs. Hockenberry's classes made iMovies on Ancient Rome that were also playing at the Tech Fair.  Mrs. Meral, Mrs. Holland, Mrs. Sanal and Mrs. Lucey all had printed Pages and Print Shop projects on display, as well.

EAA students displayed a variety of activities at the Technology Expo including product brochures and sales materials as well as using Comic Life to interpret healthy concepts and vocabulary.  Students have also used iWeb to display information about the planets and the states and contributed to a daily blog chronicling the hatching of their baby chicks.

The Easton Area High School was proud to display several examples of vector based animation. The animations that were displayed were designed and developed through the use of several computer programs such as Flash and Garageband. Students have been learning about computer animation in the course entitled Cartooning.   Additional projects from the High School were also on display.

Once again, thanks to all of the students and Classroom Technology Coordinators for their hard work and dedication.
