The Shawnee Express
After years of a printing hiatus, The Shawnee Express is back up and running! Newspaper staff members at Shawnee have been working hard over the past six weeks interviewing key people and attending events to create the first published issue of the paper since 2002. All articles are of particular interest to Shawnee students. If you would like to view the online version, you can find a link to the paper at www.eastonsd.org/shawnee.

Palmer students shine at PTA Barnes and Noble night!
Palmer Elementary students and their families attended our second annual PTA night at Barnes and Noble on Thursday, April 10. A percentage of all the book sales to Palmer families went to help fund our PTA. In addition to some shopping, many students displayed their talents. Enrichment students read original poems they had composed with Dr. Finger to celebrate Poetry Month. All students were invited to come on stage and sing with Mrs. Ruhf in grade level singalongs. Some 3rd grade students even treated us to a sneak peek of one of their chorus songs! Many teachers and our principals came to read favorite stories to a captivated audience. Thank you to Rebecca Miller and our PTA for organizing a great event!

Art
Since January, students in all grades at Tracy School have enjoyed learning in-depth about African art and culture, with a focus on Egyptian art, in their art classes with Mrs. Tracy. Some of the projects they created are: fans, sphinx’s, mummy case designs, names in hieroglyphics, pyramid landscapes, ancient maps, mirror designs and Egyptian necklaces and wigs. It’s been a truly rewarding and enriching educational experience for all! See photos, below.
