Chillot Film Festival at EAHS
This week the 3rd annual Chillot Film Festival was held. The Chillot Film Festivalis the celebration of the hard work that has transpired over the last month in Mr. Chillot’s Graphic Communication I classes. This was the student’s first experience using Apple’s iMovie in a classroom setting. These students were given the task of designing an instructional video that focused on safety. Their safety topic could be anything of their choosing, however the safety video had to be geared towards a child in grades K-2. These videos could possibly be implemented into an elementary school classroom.
All of the videos are now are posted here on the district website. Some of the videos have awards attached to them which were determined by the students in a classroom vote. Any comments on the web page can be sent to chillotm@eastonsd.org and they will be shared with the classes.

Elementary Literacy Night
On Tuesday, January 8, the Elementary Literacy Coaches hosted a K-4 Literacy Night at Shawnee. Over 100 parents and their children attended the 90 minute workshop to learn about district literacy assessments teachers administer throughout the school year. Each of the district’s Literacy Coaches prepared a 15 minute presentation on each assessment. Faye Nelson (March) and Laurie Howarth (Paxinosa) spoke about 4Sight and PSSA assessments. Lisa Langsdorf (Palmer) discussed the many subtests of DIBELS assessments. Barb Ellis (Cheston) shared information about the Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA) that is given 2-3 times per year. Joan Baldwin (Tracy) showed the many components of the Pearson Scott Foresman Reading Street Series and asked the parents to encourage their children to read 20 minutes every night. Many parents were surprised to hear that their students should read 5 million words a year! Parents wrote their children’s names on pieces of paper, and they were placed in a jar. Children’s names were drawn Over 30 door prizes were given to children whose name was drawn. All prizes were literacy related games, puzzles, activities, or Barnes&Nobles’s gift certificates. Jen Stocker, from the Children's Department of the Easton Area Public Library, came out to support our event. She was able sign parents and their children up to obtain library cards.
The evening was very successful!
