News from Team 8-6 (The A+ Team)
Students on team 8-6 are preparing for math and reading PSSAs. In both math and English, students are working on study island, an online program, to prepare for the tests and brush up on their skills. During the PSSA tests, students will earn points to participate in rewarding activities the teachers and administration have planned.
The team has voted for players for the both the dodge ball and basketball games during PSSA week. Noel Hightower and Jenna Weeks will be playing against faculty, led by Ms. DeBona, on Monday, March 31st. Mrs. Kratzer will lead the team’s dodgeball team to a victory on Wednesday, April 2nd. Team 8-6 students voted for Jeremy Swick, Chris Jackson, Tyler Peterson, Davonna Barndt, Angel Diaz, and Ashlee Csicsek to represent them at the tournament.
In social studies, students will be studying the Byzantine Empire and the churches impact on society during the time period. We will be looking at the lessons learned during the Byzantine era as they apply to the development of the United States.
In science students are working on an interactive Periodic Table of the Elements. Students are working groups to create a useful and creative version that can be used for years to come! Students will also be working on geometric nets in science in preparation for the upcoming PSSAs.
PSSA Prep Makes it’s Way into the
Cheston School Cafeteria through Technology
Cheston School continues to use lunchtime as a time to prepare for PSSA Week,
which is March 31st – April 7th.
During 3rd & 4th grade lunch times, Mr. Kies, Classroom Technology Coordinator at Cheston, presents a keynote with reading questions one day and math questions the next day. He leads the classes in figuring out the answers. The cool technology then reveals the correct answer as the students watch to see if their answer was correct. The students are encouraged to explain how they go their answer. Some problems can be figured out a few ways so it gives many students the opportunity to share what they are doing in their brains to get the correct answer. Randomly once a week prize eggs are given to students who have the correct answer. The egg either contains cougar paws or a note for a prize. Mr. Kies has a variety of prizes for the winners to pick.
Third grader, Chase raises his hand
to answer a PSSA prep question during
his lunchtime.
Mr. Kies leads the Third Grade Students through a PSSA
prep question in the cafeteria during their lunchtime.
Mayor Sal Panto visited Kindergarten, First, and Second grade classrooms as part of Read Across America festivities. Here, he reads to kindergarten students from Mrs. Frederickson, Mr. Pritchard, and Mrs. Phifer’s classes. Paxinosa would like to thank Mayor Panto for taking time from his busy schedule to support reading in our school.
Coming Together
for a Good Cause
The Paxinosa Student Council along with the Blue Star Mothers packed 15 boxes of various school supplies to be sent to school students in Iraq. The kids really did a great job counting and packing. They had set a goal of 600 items and stopped counting at 879 items! We estimate that there was well over 1,000 items. It never would have been successful without the help from everyone in the district. What a great collaboration between students, staff, the community, and soldiers. Great Work!
