The Brain Bowl

Cheston Elementary

Third and fourth grade students participated in a Brain Bowl Wednesday, March 23 in preparation for the PSSAs.  The event was held in a Jeopardy format with alternating reading and math questions for each grade.

Each classroom teacher chose five students to represent their classrooms.  All members on the teams “put their heads together” to answer the questions.   Each team chose an “answer writer” and a “noise maker”.  The team that answered the question correctly in the least amount of time received a tally mark.

All the students participated by writing answers to the questions and cheering for their team.   The winning classrooms received a Brain Bowl trophy and a new board game.  Popcorn was enjoyed at the end of contest.

The competition was spirited, but at the end of the Brain Bowl Ms. Casella’s Third Grade Class and Mr. Yander’s Fourth Grade Class were the winners.

Cheston Update

Thursday, March 27, 2008 EAHS football senior players, Brandon, Keenan and Colin came back to Ada B. Cheston Elementary School where they attended as young boys.  Keenan signed his letter of intent for Millersville University, which is his second grade teacher, Mrs. Fries’ alma mater.  This was one of many proud moments for Mrs. Fries as a former EASD teacher.  Mr. Shoemaker, the principal at Cheston during their time at the elementary school was in attendance along with family members and fourth & third grade students.  Mrs. Fries, Mrs. Ritter, Mrs. Gaita and Ms. Montague, former teachers of the young men were also gathered to wish them well and share their pride. The assembly was lead by Assistant Principal, Mrs. Barnes.  Mr. Bonstein, physical education teacher currently at Cheston and while the boy’s attended spoke to the crowd along with Mr. Shoemaker.  All three boys plan to attend colleges to continue their education.  The purpose of the assembly was to instill in the students the importance of their education and to show that athletics can be a part of their future if they study and work hard.  As the saying goes – “Once a Cougar, Always a Cougar!”
