Parents Who Care
Parents Who Care is a unique family wellness program offered to students and families of the Easton Area School District. Working with family’s strengths, parents help each member of their family achieve their best – emotionally and physically. The program offers free and low-cost opportunities for parents and children to work together to become physically fit while getting to know each other better.

Family Goal Planning: Families in the program have time one-on-one with the program coordinator to identify family strengths and develop a “goal plan,” or a series of steps families can take to improve:
• Family communication and bonding
• Your child’s connection to school
• Personal growth for all family members
• Access to family-oriented community resources

Family Success Workshop: Families come together once a week for a family success 6-part interactive video series that includes group discussion, questions and answers, and parent-to-parent sharing of experiences, challenges, and successes.

Workshop topics include:
• Taking care of YOU, the caregiver
	• Stress Management
• Communicating with your child
	• What your child needs to succeed

While parents learn new skills and develop friendships with other parents, children enjoy swim lessons or other recreational activities!

Workshops are free and transportation may be provided.

Your partner for fitness: Parents Who Care families may be eligible to receive free memberships to the Family YMCA of Easton, Phillipsburg and Vicinity, Inc. Families can look to improve their physical fitness and health while participating in family events, such as:
• Swimming • Camping
• Karate • Gymnastics
Families celebrate their success while working to help each family member become more physically and emotionally fit.

Parent-Child Home Program
The Parent-Child Home Program (PCHP) is an innovative, home-based literacy and parenting program that strengthens families and prepares children for academic success.

PCHP is a two-year program that serves children aged 20 months to four years and their families. There is no cost to the families who participate. Family Literacy Specialists (home visitors) visit participants to facilitate fun activities in their homes. Through reading, games, and crafts, both child and parent begin to develop a love of learning.

Families who participate in the program receive books and other educational materials so that they can continue to prepare their child for school after graduating from PCHP. Parents and children also have the opportunity to visit elementary schools and meet school principals and other staff. The program includes fun trips including the Easton Area Public Library to learn about the many resources available there and Perkins to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday.

The program’s approach empowers parents. They experience the joy and value of reading, talking and playing with their children in their own homes at times that fit their schedule. Home Visitors successfully help parents realize their role as their child’s first and most important teacher. Parents who complete the program continue to be active participants in, and strong advocates for, their children’s education throughout their school years.

Families who are interested in the program are interviewed to determine
their needs; those who need the most support are invited to participate. PCHP serves
25-30 families each year. If you are interested in PCHP, call Cathy Ziegenfuss at (610) 250-2542, ext. 20018.

21st Century Community Learning Center
CCLC stands for 21st Century Community Learning Center. The goal is for students to improve academically so that they will be able to meet local and state academic standards in subjects such as reading and math. Certified teachers work with CCLC students in small groups to provide specialized education. In addition, our 21st CCLC includes art, music, recreation, technology, and character education to enhance the academic component of the program.

Parental involvement is key to positive academic outcomes for youth. Parental involvement can lead to higher grades and test scores, better school attendance, more time spent on homework, reduced drop-out rates, increased rates of college attendance, and improved behavior and social skills. Parents and caregivers are always welcome to visit our after school program.

For more information about our CCLC, contact Jill Summerill Fretz at (610) 250-2542
ext. 20023.
