Outline Used in NotetakingA final outline classifies the parts of your research into clear, logical categories. The following is the recommended form for a standard outline. Title I. First major heading A. Subheading of first degree 1. Subheading of second degree 2. a. Subheading of third degree b. (1). Subheading of fourth degree (2). (a).Subheading of fifth degree (b). B. 1. 2. II. Second Major Heading (And so on . . . .)
After completing the outline, review your approach to the topic before beginning the actual rough draft. Creating your outline on computer is a useful practice. Once your outline is complete, you can begin drafting within the outline itself, deleting the outline as you use the material. However, be sure to save a copy of the outline in case you decide to make changes to content or organization later. |
