Act 153 of 2014 has increased the frequency in which all public school employees are required to submit PA Child Abuse and PA and Federal criminal background checks to their employers. Under the new law, all employees are required to provide the aforementioned checks to their employers every sixty (60) months. 

Current employees with clearances older than 5 years as of 12/31/14 must secure new background checks within one year (no later than 12/30/15) 

Current clearances that are less than five years old will expire at their 5 year anniversary date and those employees will need updated background checks before the anniversary, even if that is earlier than 12/30/15. 
Employees whose clearances reach the five year anniversary in January, February or March of 2015 must get started immediately on renewing background clearances. 

PLEASE NOTE: IT IS NECESSARY TO ACT QUICKLY TO AVOID ANY EMPLOYMENT ISSUES FOR HAVING LAPSED BACKGROUND CHECK INFORMATION WHICH WOULD RESULT IN A SUSPENSION FROM DUTIES AS AN EASD EMPLOYEE
